To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice. (Words of Advice from Bill Gates)

Life is wonderful, but it is also challenging at times.

Bill Gates gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school.

In his book, Bill Gates talks about how feel-good, politically-correct teachings created a full generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

I want all of you to be very successful, so consider some of his words:

RULE 1......Life is not fair; get used to it.

RULE 2......The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to  accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

RULE 3......You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice president with a car phone, until you earn both.

RULE 4......If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.

RULE 5......Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping; they called it opportunity.

RULE 6......If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

RULE 7......Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try "delousing" the closet in your own room.

RULE 8......Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

RULE 9......Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summer off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

RULE 10.....Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

RULE 11.....Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

最近與朋友分享我這陣子所看過的一些關於偉人與提昇心靈層面的書籍，

那麼這句話的英文你可以這麼說：

This is the truth of life, its strange but true. Once you realize this, its never too late to change.

Don't make promise when you are in joy.

Don't reply when you are sad.

Don't take decision when you are angry.

Think twice...., Act Wise.

Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again.

Enjoy every moment of life........

When you keep saying you are busy, then you are never free.

When you keep saying that you will do it tomorrow, then your tomorrow will never come.

"你落伍了"，英文該怎麼說呢?

過去，在台灣我們用台語 "老扣摳" 的諧音發明了LKK一詞，
人們用它來形容人 跟不上時代 與 落伍了。

而"你落伍了"，英文該這麼說呢??

You're behind the times.

或
You're old-fashioned.
或

You're old school.

以上三種說法都可以喔^^

人到達一個年齡，能清楚甚麼該要，甚麼不該要，真的是一種智慧。哈哈!!

"我要去剪頭髮"，英文該怎麼說??

"我要去剪頭髮"這句話，常聽到很多人直接翻譯說：

I want to cut my hair；或者是I'm going to cut my hair.( X )

但其實這兩句英文的意思是指"我要自己剪頭髮"，

除非你自己是髮型設計師或美髮師 hairstylist / hairdresser

否則我想你不會拿自己的頭髮開玩笑吧! 剪壞了，就得醜個一陣子:-p

所以正確的英文說法應該是： I'm going to get a haircut. 

如果你只是想修修髮尾，不想剪太短，那麼你可以說：

Please trim it. But don't cut too short.

或者你只是想要修掉分岔，那麼則說：

Please trim only the split ends off.

英文考試--句子中翻英

有一次英文期中考，其中有兩題中翻英的題目：

1.我穿上外套，卻發現我的第一個釦子掉了
2.他聽到電話鈴響 就去接起了電話

正確說法應該是--

1. I put on my coat and found its first button was gone.

2. He heard the phone ring and went to answer the phone (or get the call).

但小杰的答案卻是.............

1. Oh, Shit !

2. Hello~

" 除非.....，否則.....，" 英文該怎麼說呢??

現在學生的回家作業常常都要寫中文造句，例如用— 除非……，否則……來造句

除非他道歉，否則我不會原諒他的。

那英文的除非…..，否則…….該怎麼說呢??

是  S will not…….unless S ( S:代表主詞 )，這一句中英文的寫法是相反的，要從後面翻回來，所以翻譯上面的例句應該是:

I will not forgive him unless he apologizes.

以此類推—

Your health will not improve unless you change your diet.

除非你改變你的飲食習慣，否則你無法改善你的健康狀況。

中秋節 Mid-Autumn Festival 之"一家烤肉萬家香"的英文該怎麼說呢??

這個星期三又是一年一度的中秋節了，英文有的人翻" Moon Festival", 有的人說" Mid-Autumn Festival"，都是可以的。

說到中秋節，我們一定會聯想到月餅moon cakes, 柚子pomelos 和烤肉barbecuing。但其實烤肉並非中秋節長久以來的傳統之一。

現今的資訊發達，相信大家已知道"烤肉"這件事會成為中秋節的傳統之一，只是因為兩家醬油公司的廣告大戰。尤其是這句" 一家烤肉萬家香 "大家耳熟能詳的廣告詞，使得大家一說到中秋節就會想到要烤肉。

那麼" 一家烤肉萬家香 "的英文該怎麼說呢??

"When one family grills, 10,000 (ten thousand) families smell the aroma"

"隨遇而安" 英文該怎麼說呢??

中國人常說一些俚語或成語，例如" 隨遇而安 "，其實它跟"順其自然"是差不多意思的，

而在英文的說法是  --  go with the flow.

到底是學KK音標好，還是學自然發音好??

以我個人的經驗而言，我覺得兩種都學最好。或許有人會說，一次學兩種，孩子容易混淆，但其實是看教學的老師怎麼教，是否能把這兩種發音法融合在一起。

雖然自然發音法是一套強調用自然記憶的方式(不用任何的符號)，而所有的英文單字有85%都是按照這個規則發音。但還是有15%是例外，那另外的這15%怎麼辦呢? 所以KK音標還是需要的。

即使孩子從小就接觸英文，但我們的環境畢竟不是英語系國家，若無法天天使用該語言，還是會生疏的。就像我們居住在台灣，大家都說著一樣的語言，有國語跟台語，但還是有人可能國語說得不好或是台語說得不好，這都是因為所處的環境，週遭的人是使用國語還是台語。只要不常講，就可能會不流利。所以KK音標只是一個輔助工具，是為了讓我們把英文發音學得更好而已。

英文真的那麼難嗎??

好多學生都說英文很難，但我說中文更難，例如當我們要寫一個"鹽"字，其筆劃之多，比起英文"salt"，是不是覺得英文反而比較容易呢?! 我們應該很慶幸我們生活在使用中文的環境，因為這些困難的字型常常出現在我們的生活中，所以我們不用刻意去記，看到這些字我們就能唸的出來。但反說回來，若要您寫出這個字，可能都還會寫錯呢!

學中文的困難點在於"音"與"型"不同，就拿"鹽"字來說，它是由"臣"，"人"，"鹵"，"皿" 組合而成，但它卻不唸以上這四個字的音，而是唸"一ㄢˊ " ，同"言"的發音。但英文是音與型一致，雖然有時會有些例外，但85%都是按照一定的規則發音，所以學起來其實容易許多。

找對方法是很重要的，但不管學什麼，都還是需要毅力與時間的。
